Playing these simple games at home can improve your child's concentration and make school easier. Common
signs of poor concentration in elementary school children include: ① Inability to focus in class and frequent daydreaming. ② Fidgeting while listening to the lecture.
These behaviors may seem like a problem with their learning attitude, but they are actually caused by underdeveloped vestibular system, leading to insufficient concentration. Therefore, to help children perform well in school, it's important to cultivate their concentration early on by improving their vestibular system. Here are some simple games to improve concentration, suitable for children over three years old, that can be done at home.
I. Lying Down Ball Push:
Have your child lie face down on a mat 30-50 cm away from a wall, with their feet together and raised, head and chest raised. Push a bouncy ball forward with both hands against the wall. The ball will bounce back after hitting the wall; continue pushing. Children around three years old can do four sets of fifty repetitions each day.
This game mainly exercises the vestibular nuclei. The head must be raised during the game to stimulate these nuclei. The vestibular nuclei are located at the back of the brain, in the neck and back of the head. It acts as a "gatekeeper" for the brain's processing of external information. A strong "gatekeeper" can filter out irrelevant information, allowing only important information to enter. This prevents children from being distracted by irrelevant information during class. Second
, the Spaceship Game:
Using a rotating wheel in a park as training equipment, have the child sit cross-legged on it, rotate five times clockwise and then five times counterclockwise. Afterward, have the child get off and walk in a straight line, toes touching heels. Adjust the number of rotations according to the child's ability. This game will train the child's vestibular balance.
Third, Swinging in a Sheet:
Parents hold the four corners of a sheet, have the child lie inside, arms outstretched, and swing back and forth. Small plush toys can be placed on the floor; every few swings, have the child grab a toy and put it back in the sheet. This also trains the child's vestibular sense.
The vestibular sense is part of sensory integration and governs concentration. If these three games are practiced daily, even for just ten minutes, the child's concentration will definitely improve. In the future, they will not only be able to listen to the teacher's lectures, but also not procrastinate on their homework, which will save their parents a lot of trouble.
