Adapting a play to bring positive energy

The renowned performing artist You Benchang achieved success late in life, only starring in his first major role in the TV series *Ji Gong* when he was over 50. In

one scene, Ji Gong takes a steamed bun from a market stall without paying. The original script reads: Ji Gong strolls to a steamed bun stall, sees a basket of freshly steamed buns, and grabs one with his dirty hand. The stall owner calls out, "Hey! You haven't paid yet!" Ji Gong turns around and playfully says, "You need money for a steamed bun? I don't want it, here you go." He puts the bun back in the steamer, leaving five black fingerprints on the white bun. The stall owner angrily says, "Never mind, take it." Ji Gong, grinning, takes it.

You Benchang felt something was off; it didn't fit Ji Gong's image of helping others and robbing the rich to help the poor. Therefore, he didn't hesitate to suggest the director change the script. As a result, after listening to his explanation, the director adopted his suggestion and changed the play according to his ideas.

The revised play became like this: The above plot remained unchanged, except that after Ji Gong walked a few steps with a smirking expression, holding the steamed bun, he took a bite, turned around with a smile, then took out two copper coins from his pocket, placed them in his palm, held them to his lips, and blew them into the steamed bun stall owner's money box. The owner looked up at Ji Gong, his anger instantly dissipated, and he smiled with relief.

Someone asked You Benchang, "This is your first time starring in a major play. Didn't you have any reservations when you suggested changing the play?" He said, "The original play only showed Ji Gong's wit and humor, but it was negative energy. Adding some positive energy to him, I don't think anyone would be unhappy, right?"

Indeed, the world needs positive energy, and no one can remain indifferent to it.
