Mr. Wu Qingyou, founder of Eslite Bookstore in Taiwan, once said: A person's life has three savings accounts: one is a bank account, one is a physical account, and one is a spiritual account.
Upon reflection, for a lonely and insignificant individual to establish themselves in this vast world, these three accounts are indeed important.
The first account concerns money. Money isn't everything, but it can reflect one's achievements. Only when the amount in this account is large enough can it provide for housing, cars, travel, and entertainment. If the amount is meager, many of our material needs will be significantly reduced, many plans will be impossible to implement, and we will only be able to sigh in despair.
The second account concerns health. Health is certainly related to what we are born with, but it is more closely related to what we do through exercise. If a person focuses on physical exercise when young, it means constantly saving in their physical account. The more they save, the more solid their lifelong health will be. If one doesn't focus on saving in their youth, the amount in their physical account will not increase. Perhaps a sudden storm can uproot the tree of our lives, and in old age, we are more likely to suffer from illness, like ants eating away at a tree, slowly eroding our bodies.
The third savings account is about caring for happiness. In fact, a person's happiness has nothing to do with money or health, but with inner peace and joy. Some people possess great wealth and strong bodies, but are not necessarily happy. Others may lack material possessions, or even good health, but their minds are calm, peaceful, and joyful; they still feel happy and fulfilled.
Inner peace and joy are not innate, but the result of continuous cultivation in the vast world. There are many ways to cultivate the mind, but two main ones are: reading extensively and traveling widely.
Reading a good book is like engaging in a profound dialogue with a wise person, like watering our hearts with a wellspring of wisdom, keeping our minds clear and awake, constantly nourishing the fertile fields of our souls, allowing the fragrant flowers of kindness, compassion, and mercy to bloom, rather than weeds of jealousy, complaint, and hatred.
Travel is also a good way to enrich our souls. Travel broadens our horizons. The grandeur and wonder of nature teach us reverence, preventing us from falling into the swamp of arrogance. The interesting people and events along the way enrich our experiences and broaden our knowledge, teaching us understanding and tolerance, rather than resentment and demandingness.
Life is a journey of self-cultivation. The more you deposit positive and beautiful things into the bank account of your soul, the higher your happiness index will be. Conversely, if you deposit pessimistic and negative energy, you will find it difficult to find joy, and happiness will drift further and further away.
My friend, what will you deposit into the three bank accounts of your life? Don't forget, what you deposit is what you will reap in the future.
