The annual Spring Festival is just around the corner, and people who have worked hard all year are rushing home, planning how to spend the holiday. However, some bribe-givers are also racking their brains to find ways to send out "gifts."
Since the Central Committee issued the Eight-Point Regulation, the unhealthy phenomena of gift-giving and excessive hospitality during festivals have indeed decreased, more officials are going to the grassroots level, and the people have seen the Central Committee's determination to rectify these malpractices.
However, as a traditional festival, the long-standing unhealthy practices of wining and dining and gift-giving cannot be completely eliminated overnight. As regulations become stricter, bribe-givers have moved from "open" to "underground" methods, and their methods have shifted from adults to children.
Giving red envelopes during the Spring Festival, originally meant to bring good fortune and a long-standing custom, has become a "breakthrough" for bribe-givers!
They use New Year's customs as a "shield," using the guise of "lucky money" to sell bribes. This kind of corruption, which they believe is done secretly and undetected, may seem "clever," but it is actually a case of "cleverness backfiring."
It's considered "clever" because these people possess a remarkable ability to find ways around policies, a kind of "indirect wisdom." In today's environment of various "regulations" and "prohibitions," they resort to crooked means, using "lucky money" as a disguised form of bribery, attempting to evade policy and legal consequences. Little do they know that this "cleverness" is a dangerous act of testing the law and a self-deceptive act of self-comfort.
Some people are keen to give "lucky money" to the children of leading cadres, but their true intention is not what it seems; they are seeking personal gain. Some officials, however, waver in the face of these "sugar-coated bullets," becoming "prisoners" of the givers, gradually becoming accustomed to it, and sinking into the quagmire of crime. This truly is a case of "cleverness backfiring."
"A thousand-mile dike can be breached by an ant hole." We must remain highly vigilant against bribery such as "lucky money," taking concrete measures to nip problems in the bud and strictly preventing bribe-givers from taking advantage of loopholes.
